About Me
I am Nitya Lopez, a Basque director and scriptwriter based in Bilbao. In 2018, I shot my first fiction short film titled Jesus is B(l)ack, with which I won the Best Young Filmmaker award at the U22 Film Fest. A year later, I wrote and directed my second short film, Infraganti, which was a finalist in the 2019 edition of the Notodofilmfest and won the Audience Award at the Donosskino festival. In 2021, Txoriak Txori arrived, a short film that garnered over 15 selections in national and international competitions. My latest short film as director and screenwriter is Deadly Draw (Sorteo mortal), from 2023, with which I have been selected to be part of the prestigious catalog of Basque short films Kimuak.
I have also written and directed several music videos, including Liher – Teloia, awarded as the best music video at the Huhezinema festival (2022) and at the Blue Dolphins festival in Delhi, India. The piece composed of two music videos for Niña Coyote eta Chica Tornado that premiered in the United States at the Tacoma Film Fest and won the Best Music Video award at the Huhezinema festival. With Bele – Zerua Irabazi and Erromintxelak – Esperoan, both shot in 2023, I won the Jury and Audience Awards for Best Music Videos at the Huhezinema festival that same year.
I have had the opportunity to learn the craft of filmmaking by working in the directing team of more than 20 series and films including Maixabel (Icíar Bollaín), The Good Boss (Fernando León de Aranoa), La Fortuna (Alejandro Amenábar - Movistar +), Balenciaga (Moriarti - Disney) and many others.
In 2024 I directed the second units of the series Zeru Ahoak, by Koldo Almandoz, produced by Txintxua Films (Intimidad, Hondar Ahoak, Oreina, Karmele, etc.).
